It’s sunday evening, time to chill out to some free music before the new week starts!
One of my all-time favorite free albums is (click to download) “Forget And Remember” (2005) by Comfort Fit. It was released through the now de-funct Tokyo Dawn netlabel, and it’s surely a gem and predecessor of today’s electronic beat-driven music.
The album is one big trip with head-nodding shuffling beats laced with atmospheric electronic sounds and moody samples. Where it seems that other artists just ‘name’ their songs, Comfort Fit displays the rare skill of conveying a feeling into a track title.
The production is very tight and crisp, without losing the feel of sampled music which we love so much. There’s a kind of magical coherence between synthesized bits, subtle ever-changing beat sequencing and samples that sound like they were recorded off dusty vinyl. Every track in itself is well-balanced, and the same goes for the album as a whole.
Featured on the album are guest-appearances by Tokyo Dawn’s heavy hitters Blaktroniks and Prymer. Since almost all TD artists have done coöperations in the past, the tracks nicely blend in, never falling out of style with the rest of the album.
All in all, “Forget And Remember” is another must-have from the world of freely downloadable music. Recently, Comfort Fit was signed by the dutch label Mental Recordingsand I can’t wait until they release his new EP “Restless Legs”.
[edit] I just received word from Comfort Fit that “Restless Legs” won’t be put out by Mental Recordings, but there is a chance the EP will be expanded into an album! We’re gonna keep you posted on that for sure. [/edit]
Also the “Never Look Back” EP was released on the Swedish downtempo label Swedish Brandy, but I haven’t checked that one out yet.
