After all this beat madness, it’s time for some hip hop! After all, the genre is a cornerstone when it comes to beat-related music.

When you place the musical outlines of producer Pry and m.c. Pax (aka Paradox) next to each other, it was only a matter of time before the 2 men from Utrecht (Netherlands) would display their combined skills on a full-length English spoken album. They met in the now-defunct group ‘6 of your best friends’, where Pry took on the role of bass-player. After that they both ventured on to take part in the hiphop band Illicit with Pax on vocals and Pry on guitar.

Pax & Pry’s “A Day At The Office” should be filed somewhere between boom-bap and musical hiphop. While the album contains material from a wide variety of musical genre’s, it has al been packed in beat sequences that will also please the more down-to-earth hip hop lover. Dipping into almost every available production source and tool, the 13-track disc gives us samples, replayed elements, scratches and even a touch of electronica. It feels that Pry broke down all the separate elements of every style within hip hop into interchangeable pieces, and put them back together in the way he saw fit: soulful, energetic, relaxed and refreshing.

Ranging from party bangers to chilled dishes every song is laced with smooth and tonal vocals by Pax, who touches on a wide variety of everyday subjects with a seemingly inexhaustible positive point of view. It’s not like the man has lost touch with reality by falling into a well filled with pink fluffy happiness, he actually adresses a lot of real-life situations which could drop your smile in an instant. Relationships, everyday struggles and the music scene are some of the subjects which are being laid under a magnifying glass and dissected. Although Pax points out that there’s a lot of negativity going on, in the end his conclusion is always positive, comforting and from time to time surprising.

Keeping the above in mind, it’s not hard to see why the album has a some prominent names on it. Gumshoe of The Proov joins in on “From The NL With Love, Kypski lends his hands to the title-track “A Day At The Office”, and it’s obvious to hear $jammie The Money’s (as Sjam) influences and scratches on “The Busttrough”.

It becomes clear after hearing the album that this isn’t just a music project, it’s gathering of friends which have more in common than the only the music itself. Radiating a relaxed atmosphere and an open feeling this album is the soundtrack to that one warm sunny day last summer, when you and your best friends were in the park from sunset ’till late at night, discussing life and every random thought that was worth exploring. Get it.
