With all the new music coming out these days, it’s hard to keep up.
The music industry is growing more towards internet releases day by day and sadly, vinyl releases aren’t as common anymore as they were in the 90′s. With the internet taking over and everybody and their grandmother practicing the ‘art’ we call hiphop, it seems that everybody has a demo out on the virtual streets these days.
Back in the days it was different. Many upcoming groups pressed their demo recordings directly on our beloved vinyl and sometimes sold it out the trunk of their rides. Back then underground labels took notice and put some of these records on their compilation lp’s (for example, Stretch Armstrong’s Dolo label).
I will not state that all these groups / rappers were top notch material, but they did have some nice beats as backdrops back then if you were into the nitty-gritty sound. In came the group Sic Sense. Like Citizen Kane and Frankenstein, they hail from Canada.
Sic Sense released a 12″ in 1995 on Luge Recordings: A: Positional Bypass / B: Onemantality.
I was browsing through my records the other day and noticed this record I had not listened to in a while. Nothing special to say about the flipside, but the A-side is the definate winner here.
The beat uses the same sample (Blood, Sweat & Tears – I’ll Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know) that Wee Bee Foolish would use in their 2001 release “This Kid“, only Sic Sense rather uses the baseline in this one.
A real nice groovy tune, so sit back relax and listen to this laid back track.
