When I checked Big Noyd’s new single at the beginning of this year (“Things Done Changed”), I immediately thought back to the glorydays of Mobb Deep. Noyd appeared on the first Mobb Deep album (“Juvenile Hell”), then came back on the second to record his classic verse for “Give Up The Goods (Just Step)”. This lead to his debut album in 1996 on Tommy Boy: “Episodes of a Hustla”.
Taken from this LP is the 12” “Usual Suspect”. This single has the remix on the A-side and the normal version on the B-side. Forget the B-side, it’s the A-side that’s interesting here. Both versions have an uncredited appearance of Prodigy on them on the chorus. Nothing special to mention about the lyrics on this one (though a few cuts have been taken from the accapella for other hiphopsongs), but the beat is what you want from this one.

The remix version samples Ike’s Rap III from Isaac Hayes. Though many other artists also have taken this sample, I will only come up with one other underground 12”: “Omniscence – Touch Y’all” released on “EastWest Records America”.
Not much info to find about Omniscence. Omniscence’s hometown is North Carolina which he calls North Kacalack, and was a member of the group “Funke Leftovers”. He released his first single “Amazin” in 1995 which I can also recommend to you. He released an album “The Raw Factor” in 1995.
