A couple of weeks ago we’ve brought you Sneaky Pete – U Don’t Know, produced by Inf. Now it’s Master Surreal of Keynote Speakerz who keeps our hometown Utrecht on the map with a remix of Mr. Love and The Stallions‘ new single called “Fill Me Up”. Personally I’m not really familiar with the band, but I’ve always been a sucker for Surreal’s productions.
The original song by Mr. Love and The Stallions is a melancholic song that, although the arrangement is at times deep and bombastic, lies pretty easy on the ears. The piano melody is simple but touching, and the layering of violins only stresses the mood more.
Check it out on MySpace.
Surreal flips the track to a more minimalistic approach. A down-to-earth heavy drum sequence accompanied by downsampled pieces of the track give it a more dark and gritty feel. He lets the electric guitar rip through the breakdown and chorus parts of the track while still keeping everything pretty basic. At 3 quarters of the track he drops a verse, and where Mr. Stallion keeps the lyrics open for own interpretation, Surreal narrows it down to a more personal introspective.
I can’t explain how much I’m into it right now, but along with the whole song, the added verse from Surreal is really touching me.
