The Austin (Texas) based label Beats Broke has released the new Arts The Beatdoctor EP “Progressions” on July 8th!
The 5-track piece can be bought digitally, but there’s also a limited-edition that consists of two 7″s in an eco-friendly package (recycled materials and vegetable ink) and a download card which allows you to freely download the EP in 320kbps CBR MP3s. Nice!

the sticker has an Okayplayer.com quote: “sounds like madlib with less weed and better beats”
Last weekend the official release party was held at Ekko (Utrecht, NL) with a live-show by Arts that was supported by a performance of Keynote Speakerz and the Boemklatsch DJ’s. On stage Arts was joined by a drummer, bass-guitarist and saxophone player, giving the sample-based music a more natural feel. Ofcourse Skiggy Raps and Pax hopped on stage to contribute their lyrical skills on, respectively, “Be Alright” and the remix of Pax & Pry’s “Sleep”. Both tracks can be found on the EP. Keynote hyped up the crowd beforehand, and afterwards Illvester and Mike Mago kept the funky vibes flowing through the venue.
With the EP Arts continues the sampled and dirty feel that can be found in several songs on his last release, the full album “Transitions“. Like the title already states, the man has made some (maybe personal?) progressions, which is notably heard in the way the drums are laid down, and the general approach to atmosphere. The tracks sound more full but at the same time the emphasis lies more on the general feel than on melodics.

P.S. It has come to our attention some DJ did a flip this weekend that Skidz came up with for More Than Meets The Ear vol. 2… We’ll take that as a compliment, aiight? At least for now.
