When you put ‘hip hop’ and ‘Deventer’ in one sentence, a couple of names automatically pop up: Da Floawaz, Fata Morgana and The Packxsz. The first 2 groups already dropped EPs, CDs and mixtapes, but we’ve only occasionally heard something by the beat producer with a name that looks like he’s smashed his head on the keyboard.

That may sound a bit like a joke, but one thing is clearly not a joke: The Packxsz fresh and free “The Driven EP”.

This 5-track EP oozes soulfulness from the intro track “As Yet Untitled” on. Sweet melodics and subtle synthwork are accompanied by simple but delicate drums throughout the release. Hosting 2 instrumental and 3 vocal tracks, it’s a perfect showcase for a producer without being snowed-in by guest appearances.

Featurings include US artists Rebels To The Grain, Honest, and Myaleah McDaniels fills in the gaps with some smooth vocalism. The tracks are uplifting and soothing, there’s no rawness going on in here.

The production is sweet, the beats are dope, the rap styles totally fit. The only downside is actually that the whole thing is only 11 minutes long, so for my own feeling it’s short of 1 or 2 tracks. Included are high quality covers, and a wallpaper done by Twelve.
