Also, since it takes time and hard cash to run a website like this, we’re accepting donations in any form: Paypal, webspace, materials, you name it. Whatever you can miss, we can use it.
Ofcourse we won’t let the life of this site depend on the donations. We’ll be going strong either way.

• Going to parties and pestering the DJ every 5 mins by asking ‘hey man, what are you playing now?’.
• Your friends. Who heard about stuff from their friends. Who, in turn, heard about it from their friends. And so on.
• Reading foreign magazines.

Over the years hip hop became a more mainstream style, the internet went from dial-up to cable connections, and music tv channels started to get bigger and bigger. This was one cause of the drop of interest in magazines. On the other side, magazines got more and more biased (I won’t even go into the whole Benzino/Source thing) and the amount of pages per magazine went down while the amount of advertisements in those magazines slightly grew. Where I used to lay down 5 Guilders for The Source, I now have to lay down 7 Euro’s to cop it. That means I’m paying more than double for a magazine that has half the content it used to have.

So why should we buy a magazine? Because sometimes they feature an article that you just can’t miss out on. XXL Magazine just laid one down for their April 2009 (wait.. isn’t it February now?) issue, and whether you’re a fan in your teens now or in your 30’s, you probably know the album on which the article is centered: The alltime classic from Nas, ‘Illmatic‘.

Some guy named Thomas V. was nice enough to drop hi-res scans of the article online, which features a track-by-track nostalgia comment-race by big names like DJ Premier, Large Professor, L.E.S., MC Serch, AZ, Q-Tip and ofcourse Nas himself. Next to a really dope article you also get some back-in-the-day photographs of Nas and his companions.

As usual you can bounce hard in the main room on some fidget/booty/bmore/electro/dubstep/miami bass, but when you enter the premises of Ekko we of thebeats.nl will greet you with some dope chilled beats and banging hiphop. Qualitee won’t be able to join me and Skidz, so we’re bringing our boy Lavarock to fill in.

For those who can’t wait to get off their ass, Ugly Duckling will be playing at Tivoli De Helling tonight. Also, Skidz will be playing sets at the Beats Broke Allstar Jam this month and in March will be the first edition of Back 2 The Breakz with Mseize, Skidz & Lavarock. But we’ll get back to that later.

Next to that we’ve got a lot of friends and acquaintances who are organising parties and putting out tracks, and promoting them in any way is the least we can do for them. Don’t worry, we won’t shift our focus from those sampled ol’ drums and loops, we’re just adding a lil’ bit of bzzzzzzz’ing flavour, starting off with this:

Next Friday, the 5th of September, the Boemklatsch guys are organizing a party in collaboration with the Amsterdam-based blogger Swurdin, called ‘Bangers’.

While Boemklatsch has become more than just an Utrecht resident name over the years with their monthly parties, performances at Lowlands and the freshly started BMKLTSCH RCRDS, Swurdin is creeping more and more to the Dutch surface by bringing interviews, reviews and the occasional win-tickets-for-a-party posts on the (mostly) Amsterdam scene and in-crowd.

Combine those forces and you get a line-up that may even be too big for the venue (Ekko) which, next to the usual suspects, includes theFringe, SUCKERPUNCH and Mightyfools.

As you’ve noticed, updates were slow, although that word is kind of an understatement. We’ve had some technical difficulties with Wordpress, and a lot of non-internet issues that needed to be resolved.

But ofcourse we won’t leave you hanging, and to make up for the slacking there will be a lot of interesting issues and free downloads coming up this week!
